To drive on the Delaware beaches

Driving on the BeachOnly surf fisherman with a surf fishing permit, are allowed to drive onto the beach. This grants you a license plate and sticker to gain access to the beach entrances. You vehicle must have 7 inches clearance. Permits are in effect year round.

Permit regulations are strictly enforced. While on the beach you must keep in mind:

  • Permit holders must actively be involved in fishing at all times.
  • Fishing gear must be present: bait, tackle, pole.
  • Do not cross the dunes. Ever. Period. Traffic kills the beach grass that stabilizes the dunes that protect our coastline. Only cross at designated areas.
  • For safety, each and every vehicle must carry:
    • low-pressure tire gauge
    • tow rope/chain
    • board
    • jack
    • shovel

Note: Violations can result in $25 to $250 fines for a first offense and twice that for a second!
