Celebrating Delaware's 250th Anniversary
As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, there are few places where history, tradition, and community come together more naturally than in Lewes — proudly known as the First Town in the First State.

Nestled along the Delaware Bay, Lewes has long been a place where generations of families gather to enjoy the simple traditions that make summer memorable. From walks along Second Street and evenings by the harbor to beach days, boat parades, the beloved Doo-Dah Parade, and fireworks lighting up the bay, July in Lewes reflects the timeless coastal spirit that continues to draw people here year after year.

Founded in 1631, Lewes is Delaware's oldest town and one of the earliest European settlements in the region. Its historic charm, maritime heritage, and welcoming atmosphere remain an important part of what makes this community so special today. While much has changed over the centuries, Lewes continues to preserve the sense of connection and hometown pride that defines life along the Delaware coast.

Summer in Lewes is more than a season — it's a tradition. Families return year after year to create memories with children and grandchildren, enjoying everything from local shops and waterfront dining to Cape Henlopen State Park and the beautiful Delaware beaches nearby. Community events like the annual Doo-Dah Parade bring neighbors and visitors together in a celebration filled with creativity, laughter, patriotism, and small-town charm — the kind of experience that reminds people why Lewes holds such a special place in so many hearts.

This year's July celebrations also include Rocking the Docks at the Lewes Ferry Terminal on July 2, featuring Fleetwood Macked beginning at 5:30 PM followed by fireworks over the Delaware Bay. Events like these continue to bring residents and visitors together while celebrating the unique character and spirit of Lewes.

For generations, the Lingo family has also been part of the story of Lewes and the Delaware coast. From helping families find summer homes and year-round residences to supporting the growth and character of local communities, the Lingo name has long been connected to the traditions and lifestyle that make this area so special. As Lewes continues to honor its past while looking toward the future, we are proud to continue serving the communities that have meant so much to generations of Delaware families.

As Delaware marks 250 years of history, we are proud to celebrate the communities, traditions, and people who continue to shape the First State. At Jack Lingo, Inc., REALTOR, we are honored to be part of those stories and to continue helping generations of families find their place along the Delaware coast.
