Southern Delaware has many amazing spots to enjoy local sweets throughout the year! This summer, take a trip to Hopkins Farm Creamery in Lewes and enjoy delicious, freshly made ice cream in a working-farm atmosphere! We sat down with Michael Hopkins of the Hopkins family to learn more about the creamery’s legacy and mission. Keep reading to learn more!

Tell us about the history of Hopkins Farm Creamery:

Green Acres Farm, on which Hopkins Farm Creamery is nestled, has been owned and operated by our family for four generations. Grandfather William Hopkins started the present location in 1942 after separating his dairy farm business from Great-grandfather Alden Hopkins, who started the original dairy. Walter C. Hopkins, Sr., the son of William, took over the farm and worked side by side with his son, Walter C. (Burli) Hopkins, Jr.

Walter C. Hopkins, Sr. came up with the idea for an on-farm creamery, and Burli took it and ran. Hopkins Farm Creamery opened in 2008 and has been creating new flavors of ice cream and selling them to the public ever since. Burli's sons, Michael (myself) and Jacob, have now taken over the creamery and are adding our new ideas and concepts to the business.

Hopkins Farm Creamery is in the heart of Green Acres Farm, located at the intersection of Dairy Farm Road and Route 9. The farm has cows (duh!), pigs, goats, and a friendly horse, and there are plans to keep adding more animals to the family as time goes on. We welcome all guests to come and check out our animals, who all love the attention they get from customers!

What is the mission of Hopkins Farm Creamery?
