Tell us a bit about Kaisy's Delights®!

A French family falls in love with Lewes, Delaware and decides to settle there. They decide to join the great EB-5 Visa program from USCIS that grants the green card to a whole family of applicants, provided they bring enough money and create enough jobs in one area with that money. Kaiserschmarrn used to be a staple of our skiing holidays in Tyrol, and we quickly realized that this delightful Imperial mess was quasi unknown in America. Hence the Kaisy’s Delights® concept: a culinary journey through the Austro-Hungarian Empire with a French perspective and a signature dish, the Kaiserschmarrn, aka the Kaisy®. We opened our first location in Rehoboth Beach at 70 Rehoboth Avenue next to the famous Rehoboth Kite Shop. The concept was refined and developed there: breakfast, lunch, or just because; counter service; take out or sit down. The Lewes location opened on March 31, 2017. Imagine a magical, very pink, Austrian chalet. The Emperor is expected any minute, because he loves hiking in the area. We do not know whether he will grab a bite at the drive-through window or sit inside and mingle with the locals (he loves to chat). Or will he be more content to be treated as he deserves with the more refined, finer-dining-oriented, full-service operation which Zum Chalet™ can provide him? Additionally, the kiosk at the entrance of the Nemours building within Bayhealth Sussex Campus in Milford is here to satisfy the cravings of our beloved care workers and unfortunate patients who need above-average comfort food or drinks to elevate their spirits.

Kaisy’s Delights® helps America rediscover staples from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, including Kaiserschmarrn, potato latkes, Wienerschnitzel, Chicken Paprikash, goulash soup, and even Tiroler Gröstl. The French flair is there with cult items like quiche, croque-monsieur, and pastries. Of course, American favorites are also on the menu, with breakfast sandwiches (on the Kaiser rolls, to be in line with the concept), chicken or salmon sandwiches, avocado toast, and coffee from La Colombe (based in Philadelphia and most probably the best coffee roasters in the nation). Ice cream is provided by another Philadelphia staple, namely Bassetts, established in 1861 (making it the oldest in the nation) and still in business for a reason that is obvious after the first lick. Everything else is homemade from scratch. Even at the drive-through, eggs are cooked to the minute. We peel the potatoes ourselves for our latkes. Nobody else does that in the area. We also guess that we are the only place in the world that sells potato latkes at a drive-though. Our pastries are baked within our premises in a proud collaboration with Chef Ludovic from La Baguette in Dover. These are unique recipes from the olden world that talk to the hearts of many and help so many travel with their palates. We offer the French touch as far as cooking is concerned—a fun concept that tells a story. Most of our recipes are based on my aunt’s cookbook. Ruth Langer was an amazing cook, and her cookbook is her loving legacy to those she cherished. THIS ARTICLE clearly substantiates the kind of person she was. She was supposed to compete in the Berlin Olympics in 1936. As she refused to go, problems started for my family who fled from Vienna, Austria. The full story of my family is exhibited at the Holocaust museum in Washington, DC. Ruth is the obvious hero.

170A3414What would you tell someone who is considering relocating to Coastal Delaware?

The quality of life is truly amazing in this area. I come from one of the most beautiful areas in the world, namely the French Riviera. Coastal Delaware is really unique, and the quality of the welcome I found here is just as spectacular. People are kind, caring, and curious in a good way. The business environment is great. Delaware taxes and local representatives listen to your needs. I crossed the ocean to settle in Lewes, Delaware, and I have never regretted it.
