Tell us a bit about Christmas Spirit!
The Christmas Spirit is a family-owned shop. We have been on the Avenue in Rehoboth Beach since the late 70s. Visitors are always saying, “We have been coming to your shop since we were little.” Our customers are always looking for a souvenir that reminds them of their vacation.
What sorts of products do you offer your customers?
We have several themes, from beachy, nautical, crabs, zoo, birds, farm, holiday spirits (alcohol), music, sports, baby’s 1st, Irish, Nutcracker ballet, vintage, Santa’s, silver, and gold. I think Christopher Radko is our most popular brand. They are made in Poland and are blown glass. Our best-selling items are from the Old World Christmas Company. They are also glass. Our most popular theme is anything beachy that says "Rehoboth Beach" on it. We personalize almost all our ornaments.
What makes Christmas Spirit unique?
We care about our shop, we care about our customers, and we have a cozy, homey feel. We are a destination shop. Our location is an old home belonging to the Wilsons, and we have a plaque on our building in remembrance of them. I started as a Christmas Elf in 1988, and now I am the owner. I love the Chappelear family, the previous owners, and appreciate all they have done for us.
What has been your experience operating a business in Coastal Delaware?
I grew up on Maryland Avenue, and my parents still live there. I can’t imagine being anywhere else. We love this little town, which is not so little anymore. With all the supply issues, we are just trying to get through this season with what we have in already.
